From Paris with Love – VL’s Principal Designer Joey Vogel Shares HOT Home Style Trends from the Maison et Objet Show 2017
The best part of my job is being introduced to new trends and watching as they take off. I recently had the opportunity to visit Paris, France for the world-renowned Maison et Objet show. Not only is Paris the heart of fashion, but it is also the Mecca of design. The Maison et Objet show exhibits hundreds of suppliers from around the world showing the hottest products and trends. Having visited the show in the past one thing is clear, the trends you see in Europe only arrive for us in Toronto years after.
There are so many amazing new trends coming our way but here is the inside design scoop:
Colours: The colours for design this year in Europe are blush pink, emerald green and rich purples. Used all together the colours are fantastic.
Patterns: We saw tons of graffiti in both prints and art, as well as paint splatter. However bold geometrics aren’t going anywhere they are timeless. What I am swooning over is the black background large scale Floral patterns.
Materials: plush velvet’s, Moroccan furs and matte metals reign supreme this year. In upholstery and textiles the more texture the better. I also saw a lot of natural fibres being used in accessories and wall hangings; materials such as jute, bamboo and wicker.
Trends: Large-scale ceramic fruits are still in play. As well as the introduction of object shaped lights. Lamps shaped like palm trees and balloon dogs. Greenery and plant life plays a huge role in this year’s trends. From simple succulents to draping vines and green walls this was seen repetitively at the show.
