In Chinese Medicine, Spring is the season of the liver, and our liver is responsible for detoxifying and cleansing our bodies. So, it only seems appropriate, with the coming of Spring, to share some tips on how to gently support your body with a spring cleanse. Lemon water first thing in the morning. Take a ¼ of a wedge of lemon and squeeze it into a glass of warm water. The bitter flavour of the lemon stimulates the liver and gallbladder as well as supporting digestion. It’s a simple and healthy habit to start your morning off right. Focus on a clean diet. Avoid sugar and refined carbohydrates. Include clean protein with each meal. Eat fresh fruit and lots of veggies, especially green vegetables, carrots and beets. Add 2 tbsp of ground flax seeds daily for a boost in fiber. You can add these to cereal, applesauce, yogurt, smoothies, oatmeal or sprinkle it on salad. Eat either an apple or a grapefruit every day. These fruits are high in calcium-d-glucarate, which is another way to promote liver detox pathways. Sweating is a great way to detoxify the body.
