2018 EcoFair at the Barns

A decade of making a difference

That’s right!  The EcoFair at the Barns turns 10 this year!  Join us in celebrating this milestone by visiting us on Sunday November 4, 2018.  Apart from our exhibitors, we have delicious food stalls, fun interactive activities for kids and adults, and a free movie screening.

So much to see, so much to do!

This year, we are hosting another diverse selection of exhibitors.  Here’s a small list of everything you can do:  join an online community of sharable items in Toronto at Good Robot; subscribe for budget-friendly, light-weight, height appropriate kid’s bikes at GroBikes; shop for organic, plant-based, ethically sourced cosmetics at Sudsatorium; or bring in your unwanted computers and electronics for reuse or recycling at Free Geek.  This is just a taste of the many exhibitors we’ll have at the event.  Visit us to explore them all!

Get hands on!

We have some fun interactive activities for all ages! Learn how to do simple bike repairs from Matteo’s Mobile Bike Repair and then pop over to visit Black Creek Community Farms and create some nature crafts.  While you are there you can learn how to make t-shirt yarn and turn it into a rag run with Creative Reuse Toronto.  If you are more into science check out Relay for Education.  They will have a variety of activities for kids of all ages to learn about energy sources with hands-on experiments.  Anarres Natural Health Apothecary joins us again to teach visitors how to use simple, natural and often local ingredients to make a body scrub or face mask they can take home.

Fill your tummy with something yummy!

Get ready to have a taste of Toronto’s multi-cultural cuisine!  This year’s guests are all offering yummy eats.  Chau, ChocoSol, Doubles Trike, and Sausage Party are all on hand.  We will also be selling coffee at half price (only $1) if you bring your own travel mug!

Just Eat It: A Food Waste Story

This year our free film screening is “Just Eat It: A Food Waste Story.”  This documentary explores the issue of food waste from farm, through retail, and to fridges at home.  Canada is one of the worse offenders with $31 billion worth of food ending as waste each year.  We have a special guest, Belinda Li, Director of Innovation at Food Systems Lab, joining us to host a question and answer period after the film.  Find out what you can do to reduce food waste in your home!
