MOOREDALE YOUTH ORCHESTRAS: HANDEL, HOLST AND MORE SUNDAY – MARCH 29 AT UPPER CANADA COLLEGE
Orchestral favorites from Handel to Holst are on the program when the Mooredale Youth Orchestras give their second concert of the season, Sunday, March 29, 3 p.m. in Laidlaw Hall of Upper Canada College, 200 Lonsdale Road.
Dr. William Rowson directs the Senior Orchestra in the St. Paul’s Suite, one of the best known of the works written by Gustav Holst for the St. Paul`s Girl`s School in West London, England. The Senior Orchestra also performs La Oración del torero (The Bullfighter’s Prayer) by Joaquin Turina.
Under the baton of Clare Carberry, the Intermediate Orchestra plays the Concerto Grosso Opus 6, No. 1 by George Frederick Handel.
The Junior Orchestra, conducted by William Rowson, performs an arrangement of another Handel work, the March from his opera Rinaldo; as well as the Menuetto Militare in D by Antonio Bartolomeo Bruni (1757-1821).
The Mooredale Youth Orchestras comprise over 110 young players, age 6-20, performing in the three orchestras, which are geared to differing performance levels. They offer serious young musicians a chance to prepare orchestral selections and perform them at a high standard under the guidance of prominent musicians.
