There’s No Place Like ROM for the Holidays.
Now that everyone is on break for the holidays, what better way to be festive than going to the ROM? This Christmas, the Royal Ontario Museum will be transformed into a fun-filled winter wonderland with family-friendly programs that shine a spotlight on art, culture, and nature. Visitors can experienceROM for the Holidays from Tuesday, December 26, 2017 to Sunday, January 7, 2018, with activities inspired by the feature exhibitions VIKINGS: The Exhibition, Christian Dior, and Wildlife Photographer of the Year.
ROM for the Holidays program highlights include:
- Exploring the daily lives of legendary Vikings with living history re-enactors from program partner Torvik
- Pop-up contemporary dance performances inspired by the ROM collections, from Toronto Fringe Festival performers and program partner SaMel Tanz.
- Sing-along fun with high-energy musical duo and best friends Sonshine and Broccoli.
- Getting up close to wildlife with Toronto-based animal shelter Hands On Exotics, a Toronto-based animal shelter specializing in the rescue, care, and conservation of exotic animals.
- Paper-doll making inspired by the glamourous world of Christian Dior.
- A Family Lounge with fun and challenging games inspired by Vikings.
- Interactive learning with ROM experts and touchable specimens from the ROM collections.
- Arts and crafts, balloon creations, face painting, trivia, and more!
Daily activities include:
Living Viking History – Experience Norse daily life with re-enactments of these legendary explorers, warriors and artisans.
Program Partners: Torvik and Wulfthorpe.
Meet & greet until 30 minutes before closing, presentations at 12:30, 2:00 & 4:00 PM
SaMel Tanz – Art and culture come alive with performers SaMel Tanz as they dance their way through the ROM, with their contemporary and urban movements.

Sonshine & Broccoli – Get ready to sing with Sonshine & Broccoli! This high-energy, fun musical duo rock the ROM with new songs and fan favourites that will get you moving.

A Wild Time – Get up close and personal with exotic wildlife and discover incredible animal facts with Hands On Exotics.
Meet & greet until 30 minutes before closing, presentations at 1:30 & 3:30 PM
Paper Couturier – Express yourself! Create and colour your own couture look to take home.
Viking Family Lounge – Join in some Viking games – compete in feats of strength, challenge your mind, or just have a roaring good time!
Deck the Halls – Be inspired by Viking voyages, wildlife, high fashion, and more! Design your own ornament to take home, or for the ROM’s Holiday Tree.
Grab a Prop & Strike a Pose – Adventure, glamour, wildlife – the ROM has it all! Take an iconic selfie to immortalize your visit.
Animal Sagas – Meet some of the animals featured in Norse mythology, and ones that made the journey along the same routes as the Vikings. Can you find them all in this ROM Quest?
Making Faces – Transform yourself into a Vikings with our amazing face painting artists.

Out of the Vaulrs: Ancient Games – Get upclose to ancient artifacts and learn about all the games that people liked to play.
