The sun is shining, and the beaches will soon be crowded, which can only mean one thing: Summer is underway. To celebrate the return of our favourite season, we are sharing a few of our all-time favourite summer tunes. Pair these timeless classics with all that our great city has to offer. If you’re a city dweller, who spends most of the summer hitting the pavement in search of the best patio, you know that people watching is an urban favourite thing to do. Our city is full of fantastic patios to do just that, and there is no shortage of summer girls and summer boys to watch while you sip on a cold brew or a sunny mimosa.

The Rushton’s patio is always a top spot for some uptown foot traffic. Other favourites are The Pilot, at 22 Cumberland St., or the rooftop Sky Yard at The Drake Hotel.

Grab some sandwiches and a blanket and spend a romantic evening under the stars with one of the greatest storytellers in history. This year, you can enjoy the timeless tragic romance of Romeo and Juliet and the madcap comedy of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at The Dream in High Park.

What could be more perfect than a family date night with the kids in the park? Wychwood Barns and Dufferin Grove host movie nights as well as the Christie Pits Film Festival.

One of the best joys of summer (whether you’re an adult or a child) is a late night swim. Quiet, calm and relaxing, or splashing, squealing and smiling – either way it is summer heaven. Many city pools have extended hours to satisfy your nighttime itch, including the Alex Duff Memorial Pool at Christie Pits and the Giovanni Caboto Outdoor Pool in Earlscourt Park. Ready to get a little dirty? Join one of the Toronto Beaches’ Summer Volleyball leagues, and get moving! Looking for something more laid-back? Check out the nets at Wychwood Park for a less-competitive match.

Roll down the windows, put on your shades, and sing along on your way down to The Budweiser Stage or the Harbourfront Centre for some incredible live music. This summer, the Stage boasts artists such as Arcade Fire, The Cult, Lauryn Hill, Chicago, and REO Speedwagon.

Whatever tunes you’re playing, make sure to turn up the volume and enjoy every last bit of this summer. Get outside, get dirty, get wet, get some sun. In no time, those gorgeous leaves will be turning and we’ll be sipping lattes and tea, but for now, it’s nothing but ice cream and cocktails.
