ST CLAIR ARTS NETWORK HOSTS  8TH ANNUAL ST CLAIR ARTWALK JUNE 9 AND 10

St Clair Ave West residents and businesses proud to welcome city and artists to their vibrant community

TORONTO, ON (May 11, 2012) – The St Clair Arts Network is excited to announce that the 8th Annual St Clair Artwalk will take place on June 9and 10 along St Clair Ave West between Vaughan Road and Alberta Avenue. “As a resident of this neighbourhood I am proud to invite Torontonians to visit St Clair Ave West and see the diversity of talented people who call it home,” said Katie Weber, Chair of the St Clair Arts Network.

As in past years, people from across the city and beyond are expected to visit the community and enjoy the work of local artists. Works of art will be on display in local businesses through the Business Become Galleries program. Visitors will have the opportunity to see local artists at work, as well, on the Studio Tour. Buskers and street performers will also be positioned along St Clair Ave to entertain visitors as they move between installations.

The works of both established artists and new artists will be shown. The participation of new artists is made possible through the Student Program. “It is an important mission of the St Clair Arts Network to give new artists help getting started,” said Weber. “The Student Program is one of the ways that we do that.” Submissions to the festival are juried to ensure that visitors see only the best of the available works.

The weekend-long festival is made possible through the generous support of the Wychwood Heights and Hillcrest Village Business Improvement Associations (BIAs). “I’ve heard from people who don’t live here that St Clair Ave is a disaster,” said Weber. “I can safely say that it’s just not true! This is a vibrant community with many healthy, thriving businesses. I believe that anyone who comes here for Artwalk will make a point of coming back when they see what we have to offer.”

Since its inception, attendance at the St Clair Artwalk has grown to over 2,000 participants. Over 150 talented people including musicians, visual artists and literary artists have participated in the event. The St Clair Arts Network supports the St Clair art community with events such as the St Clair Art Walk and LIT on St Clair and with programs that encourage their development.

Artists interested in participating can apply now at the St Clair Arts Network website, www.stclairartsnetwork.com/st-clair-art-walk/call-for-artists/. Information for visitors planning to take in the festival will be available at the website as details of the weekend are finalized.
