Susan Kirsch Shares The Perfect Plum Palette – Makeup Shades and Techniques for this Holiday Season
It seems everyone is getting dressed up these days. It also seems there are tricks to wearing that updated makeup look you’ve wanted to try, but have been scared to. With a few expert techniques and a careful eye, you can dress up your makeup for this coming holiday season!
Use some contrasting, rich plum hues. The above palette of mini eyeshadows are the perfect assortment for any skin tone. At $10.00 each, you have a combination of colours that are sure to turn up the holiday spirit. Cherry Blossom (a soft, pale pink) is worn all over the eyelid; Serena (a shimmery peach/pink) is used under the arch of the brow and inside the corner of your eye; Irene (classic purple) is applied to the bottom of the eyelid and blended from the crease to the eyelashes; Wrecking Ball (deeper plum) can be used to smoke up the eye at the outside corner and above your crease to create bone structure and depth.
Coat those lashes to the max with your favourite black mascara. Here’s a technique that’s a “trick of the trade” to get optimal effect. Coat the top of your upper lashes first and then coat them again from underneath by brushing upward, right from the root of the lashes. They will appear twice as thick! Now for the lower lashes. Start from the root and shimmy the brush sideways to the very tips without lifting the brush to achieve a steady, no mess application.
Paint on Vogue lipstick to keep the evening trend going. This formula is rich and creamy, but not shiny ($18.00). Shown on every runway and on many magazine covers, this plum livens up the perfect black dress!
Keep the cheek soft and contoured with a swirl of soft pinks, shimmers, taupes and bronzes. Try Pink Carnation from the Blush Bouquet flower multi-colour series. I just love this colour palette ($30.00). Dust from your hairline at the middle ear and curve along your cheek for the perfect blending technique.
