The Eglinton Way 2015 Scavenger Hunt Prize Winners & Get Ready for the 2016 Scavenger Hunt June 18, 2016 12-4 PM

Local jewelry store owner and designer Varouj Tabakian, known locally as Mr. Varouj, generously contributed the Grand Prize for the 2015 Scavenger Hunt and sidewalk sale hosted by The Eglinton Way Business Improvement area last summer.

“I was excited and extremely proud to have been able to particpate in the first ever Eglinton Way Scavenger Hunt last year and had no idea at the time that it would be such a rewarding event on so many levels. The BIA Members and volunteers did a fantastic job of organizing and promoting the event, which resulted in a fun filled day with an amazing turn out of people!”

“It was a joy to feel a part of the neighbourhood and meet the folks with whom our business and livelihoods depend on and at the same time be able to give back to the community. However, the greatest reward was getting to know the Campbell Family – winners of the Scavenger Hunt! They were excited to take part in the design process and came at different stages of production to see their pendants come to life! It was a wonderful experience, as building relationships is the best part of my business” said Tabakian.

The prize winners received $2000 worth of custom jewellery designed by the talented artisan Mr. Varouj and after months of design work and decisions received their new pieces this past week. The excited members of the Campbell family who won the prize decided to do a symbolic mother-daughter piece.

Nancy Pickard, The Eglinton Way Events Committee Chair came up with the idea for the event: “The Scavenger Hunt was The Eglinton Way BIA’s events committee solution to the precarious situation on Eglinton last summer. Previously, we had hosted a summer side walk sale but we needed something that could easily be moved in case of construction and road blocks. The Scavenger Hunt brought people to the street and allowed for people to explore businesses they had not previously visited”

“At the end of the day, the BIA and events we host are really for the businesses and we are planning the event again this year because of the positive feedback we received from the 2015 Scavenger Hunt. Many businesses were particularly pleased with the number of new faces that
returned to their business after the Scavenger Hunt event. Mr. Varouj’s generous contribution for the event prize built excitement around the event and created for an attractive prize”

The 2016 Scavenger hunt hosted by The Eglinton Way is on June 18, 2016 from 12 – 4pm. The day promises fun activities for the whole family including great prizes, entertainment, sampling and an open market side walk sale. The Eglinton Way has also partnered with Oriole Park Junior Public School and will be hosting a prize draw to help raise funds for the Oriole Park Playground.
