Toronto’s 10th annual Spring Into Action Walk or Run for Diabetes! – Saturday, May 2nd, 2015

Diabetes is a disease that affects 1 in 5 Canadians – Draws Community Participation at Sunnybrook Park.

Saturday, May 2nd, 2015 will mark the 10th annual Spring into Action! Walk or Run for Diabetes in Toronto’s Sunnybrook Park. Toronto Mayor John Tory, and, Premier Kathleen Wynne were both on-hand recently for the Spring launch for the 2015 event. Both plan to attend this Saturday. In addition, Diabetic and Canadian Olympian/Pan Am Rower, Chris Jarvis, will be on hand to discuss his battles with the disease during his athletic career and in everyday life. The purpose of this annual event is to raise awareness while encouraging community involvement and active living. Funds raised provide opportunities to help send less fortunate, diabetic kids to camp! Last year, approx five hundred participants took part in the event, and this years’ milestone event is expected to reach new heights of awareness.

The years’ event has targeted to raise $65,000 for diabetes research, management and early detection. Spring into Action! 2015 is in support of: the Canadian Diabetes Association, York University’s Diabetes Sports Camp, and, IChallenge Diabetes dedicated to youth who live with Type 1 diabetes. Funds raised help send less fortunate, diabetic kids to camp! The event takes place at Sunnybrook Park in Toronto at 9:00am, and events will include sunrise yoga, a walk or run and a post race celebration.

About Legacy of “Spring into Action!” for Diabetes:

Founded in 2006 by Health Advocate, Barry H. Samuel. Its become a staple, springtime family event for education and gathering in the GTA. The goal this year is to raise $65,000. The Spring into Action! Walk or Run Event was expressly created to share the message of diabetes while engaging individuals to become more active and empowered in their lives. Funds raised by this event will help send less fortunate, marginalized youth to camp. Monies are donated to three foundations, the Canadian Diabetes Association, York University’s Diabetes Sports Camp, and, IChallenge Diabetes dedicated to youth who live with Type 1 diabetes. Over the first 9 years, SIA has raised close to $75,000 for Diabetes research. Last year SIA proceeds sponsored six children to attend the York University Diabetes Sports Camp.
