Yoga and the Libido
Yoga, the Sexual Stimulant
Last night as I practised my late night yoga, I felt my “Ohm” on the brink of “Ohhhhhhhhhh.” My open hips, the rapid fire breath exercise, the reverse of blood flow experienced in my inversions were all feeding my soul and my body, but my hunger was coming from my libido! My sexual energy was in full swing and ready to get busy!
By now it is fairly common knowledge that yoga can help reduce stress, increase flexibility and mobility, build strength, and even elevate your heart rate when practising the appropriate sequences. But even more gratifying to know, yoga has been linked to boosting your libido!
It’s all about the increase of blood flow to the right areas that will light your fire! Blood flow is a key element in increasing your sexual appetite. The more mobility we have around the pelvic girdle, the more flexibility and openness in our hips fostering the sexual desires of release.
As we continue our hip openers and core strengtheners, we increase the amount of oxygen that is infused into our erotic zone, or the Svadhisthana chakra, the primary basis of conventional sexuality. As for men, the better the blood flow, the harder the tool…and for women, when her blood flow increases, the more aroused and interested in the tool!
Even more gratifying to know, yoga has been linked to boosting your libido!
The key ingredient, as I have mentioned, contributing to healthy sex drives, is the increased doses of blood flow throughout our hips, inner thighs and adductors, lower abdominals, as well as stimulating the Hypothalamus gland that is directly responsible for releasing hormones into the body that contribute to healthy sex drives. There are several yoga poses, when safely practised in a balanced sequence, taking into consideration the nervous endocrine systems, that can stimulate your libido from baseline to highline.
But even more noteworthy, yoga is a tool we can use to stimulate our natural desires as well as a tool to maintain a healthy relationship with our sexual desires.
There are several yoga poses, when safely practised in a balanced sequence, taking into consideration the nervous endocrine systems, that can stimulate your libido from baseline to highline.
Yoga has a very rich history attached to human sexuality and desire. If you go back some 5,000 years, this ancient practice is known for its powerful combination of asana, (poses), mantra (sacred message), mudra (gesture), bandha (energy lock), and chakra (energy centre). By connecting these five forces of Shakti, (cosmic energy), Tantric Yoga suggests we can move through the world with more confidence and contentment.
In a world where ‘sex sells’ and sexual misconduct is as common as a cold, we perhaps need more yoga to govern our desires and decisions. It is truly with the power of awareness, the only force strong enough to stand up to desire, that will allow us to pleasure ourselves and others with restraint, respect, and kindness. The practise of yoga is necessary and integral for our civilisation to continue maturing. Yoga is what brings us into balance, so we can foster healthy relationships with others, with our sexual desires. Then we can learn how to become satiated by each other with yoga leading the libido off into the sunset. Namaste
